T O P I C R E V I E WDavidHIn about a week, I get to visit Johnson Space Center for the first time. Any advice on things I definitely need to see/do while I'm at JSC or in the area?------------------"America's challenge of today has forged man's destiny of tomorrow." - Commander Eugene Cernan, Apollo 17 Mission, 11 December 1972pokeyWill you be badged for JSC?DavidHI'm attending the ISS Educator's Conference. Several area tours are included, and we're allowed some "on our own" time, but I don't know what that means, exactly. I'm pretty sure we won't be allowed to just roam free. So, point being, we'll have some access, I just don't know what the limits are.------------------"America's challenge of today has forged man's destiny of tomorrow." - Commander Eugene Cernan, Apollo 17 Mission, 11 December 1972BMckayCheck out the Outpost Tavern (check to see if the have a Challenger tee shirt on the wall - I gave it to them) and Pe Te's (near Ellington AFB). The food is fine- cajun style. The photos on the walls are worth the trip to both.If you lock your car keys in the car at The Space Center Houston, they will call security and open the car right up for you. They were very nice to me.Bryan micropoozAlso check out Frenchy's restaraunt at the corner of NASA Road 1 and El Camino - another place with some good astronaut pix and great Italian food.At Space Center Houston, check out the movie (really good and unique to SCH), full scale Orbiter nose & cockpit mockup, Apollo 17, the lunar surface diorama (John Young worked with them to get the lighting and look correct), Gemini 5, and MA-9. If you can get into Bldg 2 on site, one of the old Lunar Landing Training Vehicles is just outside the Teague Auditorium and pretty neat to see.MrMoonRent Space Cowboy before you go, the bar they go to and have a fight outside of is the actual Outpost, which is on NASA Rd. about three blocks down and on the other side of the street from the NASA main gate. Frenchies is directly accross the street from the Outpost. You can also read Dragonfly, they talk about George Abby and his excursions to Frenchies and the Outpost.Have funBill Walton [This message has been edited by MrMoon (edited January 29, 2004).]BMckayMax Q will be playing that Friday night. I heard they are fun to watch and are very nice to people after the show.DavidHWhere?! When?! Oh, man, cool!------------------"America's challenge of today has forged man's destiny of tomorrow." - Commander Eugene Cernan, Apollo 17 Mission, 11 December 1972lunarrv15I think at the Ramada Inn across the street from the center. check Ramada markey.can you inquire for hard to request photos with your badge?Rob JoynerHi Dave,You'll have fun seeing Max Q! They were at last year's AHOF induction weekend at KSC.A note of interest - Jim Wetherbee, the drummer is an original member from 18 years ago! He is also a six-time shuttle astronaut and a really nice guy! When I met him after the 'gig' I told him that I saw him launch aboard STS-113 Endeavour in person and he quipped back, "Oh, yeah! I remember that! You didn't see me waving at you?!"Take lots of photos for us!RobrandyI also saw Max Q at the AHOF induction a couple of years ago, and met Jim Weatherbee, too. Really cool guy. It was a pleasure to talk to him and the other members of the band. Yes, I got their autographs, too!Sy LiebergotDavid,Let me know what your official tours include. If they include a visit to the Apollo-era MCC (Bldg 30). I'll be more than happy to give you a talk in the old MOCR (Mission Operations Copntrol Room) where I worked as an EECOM flight controller for so many years. Have the conference coordinator contact me at JSC: 281-244-8412; e-mail: slieberg@ems.jsc.nasa.gov.My book URL: www.apolloeecom.com Sy quote:Originally posted by DavidH:I'm attending the ISS Educator's Conference.
